Most of the students are often found flooded with numerous doubts regarding the selection of stream, college, entrance examinations, etc.

With so many career options being in existence, the law has also gained colossal steam among the 12th pass- out students as one of the best options. As a testimonial, the materialization of Law colleges, foreign and native placements are self- evident.

If you are also willingly taking an interest in the article, stay tuned to know about the competitive examination for admission in reputed law colleges, i.e., CLAT.

What is CLAT?

The expanded form of CLAT is Common Law Admission Test. The test is an all-India entrance examination to get admission in one of India’s 22 reputed law colleges.

These colleges are referred to as National Law Universities, i.e., NLU. Apart from these 22 Institutes, 37 other education providers of law courses are allowed to use the CLAT score as an admission basis. It is an offline examination and is conducted only by the 22 NLUs by rotation.

Universities use the exam as a basis for admission in graduate and post-graduate courses; thus, the minimum requirement for appearing in the exam is 12th and Graduation in Law, respectively.

Once you clear your senior secondary examinations, you can appear in CLAT. It is a cut-off-based examination, and CLAT cut off varies from University to University.

Eligibility

One can give CLAT examination at any point in their life, which means that there is no upper age bar set by the government so far to be eligible in the exam. Also, only the NRIs and Indian national residents are allowed to take the CLAT exam. Any foreign student out there wishing to take admission in any course offered by National Law Universities here may contact the universities to confirm if they offer seats to international students.

Eligibility requirements for under-graduate courses include

• For general students: minimum 45 aggregate percentage in 10+2

• For SC/ST applicants: at least 40% aggregate in 10+2

Eligibility requirements for post-graduate courses include

• For general students: minimum 50% aggregate in LLB or B.L. or any other equivalent degree from documented University

• For SC/ST applicants: at least 40% aggregate in the same as above

Subject Highlights of the CLAT Examination

The CLAT syllabus includes subjects to check various skillset of yours like Logical and Legal Reasoning, G.K. and Current Affairs, Quantitative Aptitude, Syllogism, English, etc.

Final Verdicts

Wrapping up everything here, I would only say that it is not a random exam, and most students take it lightly. Still, the key point is to be consistent and start preparing right from the day you decide to participate.

Also, a major quality that the candidates need to have is Reading. One should be a passionate reader to clear the exams like CLAT. Another major skill set that one should practice is time management for sure and more practice!!!
