There are a lot of day trip places around Toronto which you can explore and enjoy. If the weekend is here and you don’t want to stay in the city, head out to these places for some fresh air and fun activities.

Many of these areas are short drive away from the city and can give you a chance to see something other than the quinine city. Below is a list of six places for a one day trip near Toronto.

1. Niagara on the lake

The Niagara on the lake is a premium wine region in Ontario. This is an area and a quaint little town. There are a dozen wineries here and they produce the famous ice wine. The ice wine is made from grapes that are frosted in winter and then processed.

The town has structures from the 18th century is a historic site of national interest. The historic town is decorated in season and you will find horse-drawn carriages moving around.

From spring to the fall season, the town hosts the Shaw Festival, showcasing plays by Shavian playwrights and George Bernard Shaw. Just like any tourist town, there are cafes, restaurants, tourist shops and souvenir outlets.

2. Hamilton Area Falls

Hamilton is known as the waterfall capital of Ontario as it is home to more than a hundred natural waterfalls. You can visit the city of Hamilton with its art galleries and museums.

The warplane Museum, the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Whitehern Historic House and Garden are places of interest.

The trails, waterfalls, parks and conservation areas near the city are also cool places to explore. Tiffany Falls, Devil’s Punchbowl, Buttermilk Falls and Albion Falls are some that you must see.

Go on hikes and stop by at the Eramosa Karst Conservation Area for spectacular karst formations.

3. Collingwood and Blue Mountain

Collingwood and Blue Mountains make an interesting location for a day trip. Collingwood on the Georgian Bay has a good vibe with places to eat and shop. The Blue Mountains are a raised area which you can get to after crossing Collingwood.

The Blue Mountain Resort is located here and is popular for summer and winter activities. The Scandinave Spa with waterfalls, fire pits, outdoor baths and massages are a treat.

You can hike, ski in the winter while zip-lining and mountain biking are popular in summer. This is one of the best options for a one day trip near Toronto.

4. Gravenhurst and The Muskokas

The small town of Muskoka is also known as a part of the cottage country. Gravenhurst is nestled at the bottom of Lake Muskoka and has plenty of historic sites.

Take a cruise on the lake on one of the steamships. These tours or cruises can last from one hour to four hours.

They also offer lunch and sunset dinner cruises for those who are interested. It is a good way to spend time on the water. There are walking and hiking trails that allow you to commune with nature up close.

You could rent a Toronto Party Bus if you are taking a large group of friends and family so you can all go together and have fun while travelling.

5. St Jacob’s

The St. Jacob’s village is two hours away from Toronto and is known for its farmer’s markets. Fruits, vegetables, arts, crafts and prepared foods are sold here. It has a small-town charm and is quite pretty. You can visit the Maple Syrup Museum and the Quilt Gallery to know more about the local Mennonite’s culture.

6. Wasaga Beach

The largest freshwater beach in the world – Wasaga Beach is north of Collingwood. The beach is 14-kilometre-long and is blue flag certified. This means that you can swim here.

The sand is groomed by machine and water is kept clean. There are volleyball courts and walking trails which you can use. The Nancy Island Historic Site has war and natural history to check out.
