Who can win the orange cap in IPL 2020?

Indian Premier League is all set to be back. The wait of millions of its fans will be over soon and they will be able to witness the fast and furious cricketing action for which the IPL is known all around the world. IPL 13 will be held from September 19 in the UAE owing to the COVID-19 situation in India. One of the most important parts of IPL is its batsmen and their ability to hit boundaries at will.

IPL 2020 Orange Cap

Every season, the batsman with the most runs is awarded the Orange Cap. Last year, David Warner claimed the Orange Cap after scoring Over the years, the biggest names in cricket have donned the Orange Cap. With a new season around the corner, let us look at some players who could score the most runs this time around.

IPL 2020 Orange Cap

Rohit Sharma

In 2019, Rohit Shama led Mumbai Indians to a record 4th IPL title. The Indian opener is known for his ability to put huge numbers of runs on the board. But Rohit Sharma has been consistent in IPL although he has not managed to score huge runs season after season.

He has achieved great success as a player and as the captain of Mumbai Indians but Orange Cap is a feather that is still missing from his cap.

He racked up 405 runs from 15 matches in the 2019 edition. If he can get his hand on the Orange, he will be the second batsman from Mumbai Indians after Sachin Tendulkar to do so.

He was the highest run-scorer in the 2019 World Cup with 648 runs to his name and would like to emulate that success in this IPL and also defend the IPl title.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul has scored high runs consistently for the last two seasons of the IPL, finishing second and third on the list of most runs scored in the 2019 and 2018 season respectively. The Bangalore lad was able to score more than a thousand runs in the preceding two seasons of the IPL with a century to his tally as well.

Rahul has been in good form and will look forward to helping his team reach the later stages of the tournament with his batting which in turn will help him get on the top of the board. He will also be captaining his side this time around.

It will be interesting to see if KL Rahul can help win King XI Punjab their maiden title and win his maiden Orange Cap in the process. He has done well for the national team and contributed massively in India’s victory over New Zealand in the T20 series and scored 224 runs in the series, the most by any batsman.

David Warner

This list would be incomplete without mentioning David Warner. A three-time winner of the Orange Cap, there is hardly anyone who knows more about scoring huge runs in IPL than him. Warner scored 692 runs in 2019 with the help of one hundred and eight fifties at an astounding average of 69.20.

Although he will not join the party before September 26, thus missing the first week or so of the tournament, he can still not be ruled out from this race at all. He has been in great form recently and even scored a T20I hundred in 2019.

Virat Kohli

The Indian and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain had a not so impressive IPL 2019 by his standards despite scoring a hundred. He could only score 46 runs in 14 matches. But he will be back fresh with his hunger for runs and once again with the mission to help Royal Challengers Bangalore win the trophy.

His performance will be once again vital for his team’s fortunes in the tournament. Kohli has already won the Cap in 2016 when he scored 973 runs, the highest ever by a batsman in a single season of the IPL. His phenomenal run-scoring stretch in 2016’s IPL came after a lackluster 2015 season.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer scored 463 runs in the last IPl with three fifties to his name. He has given some solid performances for the national side as well. Batting wise, he is in a good form and mindset. With his increased maturity on the pitch, he could be the batsman to look out for in this season.

Andre Russell

The West Indian all-rounder showed his raw batting power last season. Russell scored 510 runs in 14 matches with the help of four half-centuries. Russell also hit 52 sixes in the 2019 season and became the second batsman after Chris Gayle to hit over 50 sixes in a single edition of the IPL. IF Andre Russell can manage to come up with the batting order more often in this season, he would have a very strong chance of getting away with the Orange Cap.
